The coupe market was bustling 25 years ago. Ford, Peugeot, and Volvo were among the many mainstream names doing a roaring trade in handsome two-door cars at accessible prices. And in very lurid colors. Today, the picture looks decidedly different and not merely because the trio we have here are all painted various shades of grey.
The Mercedes CLE, BMW i4, and Audi Q5 are all that's left of a once-thriving segment. The CLE is a replacement for the C-Class and E-Class coupes, the i4 is an electric gran coupe, and the Q5 is a compact luxury SUV with a coupe-like design. They may not be traditional coupes, but they're the closest thing we have now.
In terms of performance, the CLE has a range of engine options, including a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four that produces 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. The i4, on the other hand, has an electric powertrain that produces 335 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque. The Q5 has a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four that produces 201 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque.
The CLE has a top speed of 155 mph, while the i4 has a top speed of 118 mph. The Q5 has a top speed of 130 mph. In terms of 0-60 mph times, the CLE can do it in 5.7 seconds, the i4 in 5.5 seconds, and the Q5 in 7.0 seconds.
