Sales of electric vehicles (EVs) are still down in 2026, but Toyota is seeing success with its updated models as Tesla continues to lead the charts. According to Cox Automotive, 462,892 EVs were sold through the first half of the year, which is 24 percent lower than the first half of 2025.

Some automakers, such as Tesla and Rivian, do not break out sales numbers for individual models. In these cases, estimates from Cox Automotive are used to provide an idea of where popular EV models stand.

The Lyriq hangs onto tenth place on this list, despite a second quarter that was 16 percent worse than the same period last year. The mid-size electric SUV is down 19 percent in the first half.

Ford's only remaining EV remains in seventh place, although the first half of 2026 has been rough, with sales down 31 percent in the second quarter and 47 percent on the year.

Sales of Rivian's three-row SUV have steadied, with sales up 1 percent in Q2 and 2 percent through the first six months of the year, according to estimates from Cox Automotive.

After claiming the title of bestselling non-Tesla EV last year, the Equinox EV has faltered. Sales were down 62 percent in the second quarter and have fallen 41 percent through the first half.

The Ioniq 5 is the bestselling non-Tesla EV so far in 2026, with sales increasing by 4 percent in Q2 and 9 percent through the first half.

The Model 3 is down 34 percent through the first half of the year, according to estimates from Cox Automotive, but remains the second-best-selling EV in the United States.
