The latest member of the automaker’s new electric performance car family features only 536 horsepower. The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe first broke cover back in May, and quickly became one of the more controversial cars of 2026. With nearly 1200 horsepower on tap in wildest form and some less-than-conventional styling choices to boot, the electric sedan is nothing if not an extreme take on the segment. Yet despite the GT63 and GT55 trims still being a ways off from dealer lots, AMG is already expanding on the offer sheet. Meet the all-new Mercedes-AMG GT53 4-Door Coupe.
Like the GT63 and GT55 models, the AMG GT53 4-Door Coupe is a pure electric expression of Mercedes’s performance powers. The powertrain itself is centered around a pair of permanently excited synchronous electric motors, which work together to provide the car with AMG Performance 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system. Mercedes says that this particular layout is good for 536 peak horsepower, with a continuous run-rate of 362 hp. Maximum torque output is rated at 590 lb-ft.
View Price on AmazonThe entire powertrain is supported by a 106-kWH battery pack, which AMG says should provide the 4-Door Coupe with nearly 310 miles of range on the US testing cycle. The setup is supported by an 800-volt architecture, allowing for charging rates of 250 kW. That means you should be able to add around 200 miles of range in as little as 10 minutes on a properly potent DC fast charger.
Other highlights include an adaptive air suspension system that allows for both cruising-oriented comfort and high-performance capability. Mercedes has also fitted the car with a set of simulated gears operated via paddles, as well as an “authentically reproduced” combustion engine sound inspired by the C238-generation Mercedes-AMG E53 Coupe.
