The Dodge Viper may have disappeared from showrooms around a decade ago, but Stellantis clearly knows it remains one of the most iconic performance cars America has ever produced. The latest reminder comes through a partnership between Dodge, Lego and Microsoft that sees the 2016 Viper ACR return for both the digital and brick-built worlds.
The Viper ACR, in case you’ve forgotten over the last 10 years, came powered by an 8.4-liter V-10 engine with 645 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque. But the impressive power isn’t the only story; thanks to significant aerodynamic upgrades and other tweaks, the ACR still stands as the most track-focused Viper that was ever allowed to wear a license plate, setting lap records all over the country. Suffice it to say, Stellantis is not ready to let it fade from memory.

While Ford has continued evolving the Mustang into cars like the Dark Horse and Mustang GTD, and Chevrolet has transformed the Corvette into the mid-engine C8 family that’s culminated in the ZR1 and ZR1X, Dodge's greatest performance icon remains a car that left production in 2017. Sure, Dodge gave us impressive muscle cars that lead up to the Challenger SRT Demon 170, but the Hellcats and Demons were better suited to the drag strip. The Viper ACR was built to devour a road course in a way modern Dodge vehicles can’t match.
If nothing else, the Viper ACR's latest return is a reminder of what made it so special. Nearly a decade after production ended, it's still one of Dodge's most powerful enthusiast icons. Maybe it's time for Dodge to stop reminding us how great the Viper was and start building something worthy of carrying that torch.
