A 21-year-old man in Washington state allegedly stole a 2014 Chevrolet Corvette, led police on a high-speed chase, and then stole the car back from impound three weeks later. The suspect, Duop Tiet Pidor, was initially spotted by police driving the yellow C7-gen Corvette without license plates in Pierce County, Washington. When the trooper attempted to stop the car, Pidor took off and sped through traffic, crossing double yellow lines and even driving in the wrong direction.
Police used a PIT maneuver to bring the chase to a halt, and Pidor was arrested and booked into the Pierce County Jail. The Corvette was impounded and taken to Hometown Towing and Recovery in South Prairie. However, this would not be Pidor's last time behind the wheel of the Corvette. On January 30, Pidor allegedly broke into the secured impound lot and stole the C7 again.
View Price on AmazonAccording to KOMO News, surveillance video shows the suspect being dropped off around 2:46 a.m. Police say the locks on the gate securing the lot had been cut, and cell phone data put Pidor at the location at least nine times between January 15–30. Employees from Hometown Towing and Recovery reportedly told police that Pidor and members of his family repeatedly contacted them, and even visited the lot to get personal belongings out of the car.
Pidor has been charged in Pierce County Superior Court with second-degree burglary, motor vehicle theft, and attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle. The Corvette was later recovered in Seattle by the King County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities will likely be putting tighter security on the car next time.
