Rivian Automotive, a US electric vehicle manufacturer, has increased its revenue by 27% in the second quarter and reduced its loss by 25% compared to the same period last year. The company reported revenue of $1.658 billion in the second quarter of 2026, a 27% increase from the same period last year. The automotive segment grew by 23% to $1.143 billion, while the software and services segment increased by 37% to $515 million.
Rivian's joint venture with Volkswagen to develop software and a zonal E/E architecture accounted for $308 million or 60% of the software and services segment. Volkswagen is now the largest shareholder of Rivian, with a 15.9% stake.
The net loss attributable to common shareholders was $837 million in the second quarter, down from $1.115 billion in the same period last year. Rivian produced 12,613 electric vehicles in the second quarter and delivered 12,194 units. The company has increased its delivery forecast for 2026 to 65,000 to 70,000 vehicles, up from the previous forecast of 62,000 to 67,000 vehicles.
Amazon currently operates over 40,000 of Rivian's electric delivery vans, which are used to deliver packages in thousands of cities across North America.
