Porsche has introduced the Manthey kit for the Taycan Turbo GT, which has set a new record at the Nurburgring with a lap time of 6:55. The first-ever sedan in the six-minute range is also the fastest production EV to ever run the Nordschleife.
Long-time Porsche racing team and now factory-approved partner Manthey Racing has done some serious work on the brand's most extreme sports cars in recent years. Buyers can currently opt for a Manthey kit on their Cayman GT4 RS and 911 GT3 RS, with the latter cutting four seconds off the car's already-impressive lap time at the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
A car equipped with the extensive kit, and with the previous Weissach Pack, lapped the 'Ring in 6:55.553 on a recent record attempt. That lap makes it both the fastest production EV and the fastest sedan to ever run the circuit. Lars Kern, the driver for both this run and the previous Taycan Turbo GT record, was 12 seconds quicker than his previous time without a Manthey kit.
View Price on AmazonThe car also put 10 seconds on the Rimac Nevera hypercar, nine seconds on the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra that held the previous sedan record, and four seconds on the Yangwang U9 Xtreme that recently reset the EV record. For reference outside the world of EVs, the Manthey-equipped Taycan is also a couple seconds faster around the storied track than the Porsche 918 Spyder.
The Taycan Turbo GT is the first Porsche to add power with its Manthey kit, thanks to a bump in maximum discharge current from 1100 to 1300 amps. That adds 26 horsepower on normal operation, taking the car's standard output from 777 horsepower to 803 horsepower. Pushing the "attack mode" button brings power up to 978 horsepower, a bump of 40 horsepower from the amplified output on the standard car.
Lighter wheels allow the buyer to option either road-focused or road-legal-but-track-specialized Pirelli P-Zero Trofeo RS tires, both of which are wider on all four corners than the stock options. Custom setups for the Active Ride suspension, four-wheel steering setup, and all-wheel drive system fine tune the car to best make use of all that added power and grip.
