A shortcut to avoid traffic turns into the ultimate public embarrassment for a Nissan Frontier driver who removed a road closed barrier and drove into wet concrete. The Nissan Frontier went boldly where no truck should go—straight into wet concrete. And while that's sad under any circumstances, what's even sadder (or perhaps funnier) is that the obstacle was apparently entirely avoidable: According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), the driver removed a “road closed” barrier ... and then drove straight into the freshly poured road material.

The May 12th incident occurred at the Interstate 41 / 894 / US 45 and National Avenue interchange in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, according to WisDOT, which was then prompted to issue a warning that really should go without saying: to never remove or ignore “road closed” or any other types of official road safety barriers or signs. Photos released by WisDOT show the blue Nissan Frontier buried axle-deep in the smooth concrete surface, like some sort of modern art installation inspired by foolish drivers.

Tire tracks can be seen leading directly into the fresh pour, documenting the exact moment the driver realized they had made a terrible mistake. Unfortunately, by that point it was apparently too late to reverse course. Footage of the aftermath aired by local news outlet WISN ABC 12 News shows a police officer and what appear to be multiple construction workers staring, bemused, at the pickup truck. To WisDOT’s credit, they handled the situation with a sense of humor while still delivering an important safety message.

Unsurprisingly, their social media post quickly spread online as people reacted to the sheer absurdity of someone physically moving barricades just to continue driving into lane full of fresh concrete; as of this story's publication, the post had been liked more than 7,700 times on Facebook, with well over a thousand comments. Even other state departments of transportation piled on: "'Ooofdah!' I think is the phrase you guys like to use in situations like this," wrote the Arizona DOT's page.
