The LF-ZC electric sedan concept, which was supposed to be a flagship model for Lexus, has been canceled due to market fluctuations. The concept was first revealed at the 2023 Tokyo auto show and was planned to go into production this year. However, weakened demand in the electric vehicle (EV) marketplace has forced Toyota to make this decision.
The LF-ZC was meant to introduce new technologies, including significantly improved battery technology. It was planned to ride on a new electric architecture, but unlike the recently revealed electric TZ, which rides on Toyota's modular TNGA-K platform, reducing costs and providing an easier path towards profitability.
A spokesperson for Lexus stated that the decision to cancel the LF-ZC was made after taking into account fluctuations in market demand and the workload associated with vehicle planning and manufacturing. Although the LF-ZC project has been canceled, Lexus has not given up on developing next-generation battery electric vehicles (BEVs).
Lexus will continue to respond swiftly and attentively to changing times and needs, striving to build cars and provide experiences that exceed customers' expectations. The company will continue to review and evaluate its product plans to achieve the optimal strategy, including the consolidation and reorganization of projects.
