Driving a Lamborghini Urus certainly attracts attention, but it's safe to say what you're about to see here probably wasn't the kind of attention its driver was hoping for. According to the Yonkers Police Department in New York, a 23-year-old Bronx man was arrested on July 13 after a dramatic encounter involving an Urus that ended with flattened tires, damaged police vehicles, and a request for a pair of slippers.

Police identified the driver as Mohammed Al Lahabi, who they say had previously fled from law enforcement in multiple jurisdictions. Investigators received an alert from a license plate reader that the Urus had entered Yonkers, and was parked in a CVS parking lot at 132 Bronx River Road. Police said that knowing the driver had a history of fleeing, officers decided to get ahead of the situation.

A Yonkers Police Department patrol captain deployed a Stop Stick tire deflation device beneath the massive Urus tires before the driver returned to the SUV. Additional officers positioned their patrol vehicles to box in the vehicle, limiting any possible escape routes. The police officers' instincts were apparently right: authorities say that when officers attempted to arrest Al Lahabi, he refused repeated commands to exit the vehicle. Instead, police allege he drove the Urus toward officers and patrol cars.

The Urus is a powerful SUV, with 641 horsepower and 850 lb-ft torque, but even all its power would not allow it to escape; with its tires deflated and police vehicles surrounding it, the Lamborghini had nowhere to go. Officers were able to take the driver into custody without a chase. Police released the body cam footage of the incident, which the department posted on social media. In the video, as Al Lahabi is being taken out of the SUV and arrested, he is heard asking the arresting officers, “Can I put my slippers on please?”

"The vehicle involved in this incident may have attracted attention because it was a Lamborghini Urus, but our response would have been exactly the same regardless of the make or model. What mattered was the driver's conduct," Yonkers Police Department public information officer Frank DiDomizio said in a statement to Road & Track. "If there is one takeaway from this incident, it is that attempting to flee or evade law enforcement is simply not worth it. We encourage all motorists to obey the rules of the road, comply with lawful police orders, and resolve any encounter with law enforcement safely and peacefully."

Al Lahabi has been charged with first-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree assault, according to Yonkers Police. Authorities said additional charges are possible as the investigation continues.
