Lamborghini has a history of releasing various variants of its cars. Over its lifetime, the Huracan alone could be had in base, Performante, Evo, RWD, Technica, STO, and Sterrato forms. That makes the Urus, the brand's second-ever SUV and first to be built at significant volume, a bit of an outlier with only three variants built to date. Fortunately for buyers looking for an even faster Urus, that should change on July 1.
Lamborghini on Thursday teased an announcement for next week with a photo that appears to show an Urus with a two-layer spoiler split over the roofline and decklid. There are no other details in the post, but we can infer from the photo that this is likely a high-performance variant of the super-SUV. That role was last filled by the Urus Performante, a high-output Urus that has since been eclipsed in power by the hybrid Urus SE unveiled as the new base model in 2024.
View Price on AmazonThe last Performante added some power and cut around 220 pounds of weight from a standard, non-hybrid Urus. The company's SUV has gotten significantly heavier and more powerful as a hybrid, but Porsche notably applied a similar formula to its hybrid SUV to make the Cayenne Turbo GT, which became the fastest SUV at the Nürburgring in 2021 with a top speed of 186 mph. Given the substantial aerodynamic elements on display in this teaser, the new performance-focused Urus could be targeting a similar achievement.
We should know more about what Lamborghini has planned for its SUV lineup when the car is unveiled on Wednesday. The Urus is currently powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine producing 641 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque, and can accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 3.2 seconds.
