The first topless derivative of the Revuelto platform will be limited to just 15 examples. Like many of the world's highest-end automakers these days, Lamborghini loves a few-off: a limited-edition car that lies somewhere between the bespoke coachbuild one-of-ones for crème de la crème customers and the "mainstream" models available to the merely well-off. The buyers love the feeling of exclusivity; the carmakers love the chance to go off-script from the usual design cues and material constraints (as well as the tasty profits that come with rebodying a series production vehicle and selling it at multiples of its original price).
And when it comes to few-off supercars, there's also usually an easy way to double your pleasure for both customers and company alike: once you've sold your run of coupes, hack the roof off and create a droptop version for a second run.
View Price on AmazonThe Fenomeno Roadster is, as you might suspect, largely similar to the Fenomeno hardtop Lamborghini unveiled at last year's Monterey Car Week, from the absolutely ferocious front and rear fasciae to the plug-in hybrid V-12 powerplant that puts out 1065 horsepower—a dabble more than the Revuelto from which it hails. The new limited-run car marks the first topless derivative of the PCOTY-winning Revuelto to reach the street, as no open-top version has yet been confirmed as of three years from the hardtop's debut.
To keep the loss of lid from eating too much into the outrageous performance, Lamborghini remastered the Fenomeno's aerodynamics for the roadster to make sure it can match the downforce and balance of the coupe, with features like a windshield-mounted spoiler that helps fire fresh air into the nostrils of the 12-cylinder monster behind the cabin. Likewise, the rollover protection setup behind the seats has been designed to be as flat as possible, in an effort to make the car look as low and sleek as the designers could manage.
Perhaps the oddest design quirk of the Roadster is not tied directly to its roof or lack thereof, but rather, its side windows. The top line of the glass has been cut into an obtuse angle, blocking the harshest wind near the windshield yet fading down near the occupants' faces to let more of the summer breeze—or perhaps the it's-over-9000-rpm wail of the V-12—reach them at all times.
