Jaguar has revealed the official name of its new electric four-door GT, which will be called the Type 01. The car is expected to be revealed later this year and will feature a tri-motor powertrain that produces over 986 horsepower and 958 lb-ft of torque.
The Type 01 is the production version of the concept car that was shown off in 2024, which sent the automotive community into a frenzy. The concept was dubbed the Type 00, and Jaguar is taking a logical approach by naming the production model the Type 01. The "Type" naming scheme has a rich history at Jaguar, starting with the C-type that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans on its first attempt, before later appearing on the E-type, widely considered one of the most beautiful cars of all time.
The Type 01 will feature a "strikethrough motif" where the hood meets the windshield, which was present on the concept car. This feature, along with the new "leaper" logo that appears on the front fenders, suggests that many of the design cues seen on the polarizing Type 00 could make production. Jaguar has also released a teaser image showing the name emblazoned on a thin bar that forms the strikethrough motif.
Jaguar has revealed that camouflaged Type 01 prototypes will make an appearance in Monaco ahead of the Formula E race there, with the full reveal happening at some point later this year. The starting price of the Type 01 is expected to be around $130,000.
