Honda is recalling over 1 million CR-V and Accord vehicles due to a faulty tire repair kit that can cause a bottle cap to fly off, posing a risk of injury. The recall affects 2023-2026 Honda CR-V Hybrid, 2025-2026 Honda CR-V Fuel Cell EV, and 2023-2026 Accord Hybrid models, totaling 1,049,883 vehicles. Federal regulators say that excessive pressure inside a tire sealant bottle can cause the cap to detach if it is improperly connected to the tire valve.
During development of the flat tire repair kit (TRK), the design did not adequately account for pressure buildup that could occur if the nozzle were improperly connected, resulting in the inclusion of an unnecessary fluid leak prevention valve. Additionally, certain relief valves were improperly adjusted during supplier manufacturing, preventing pressure from being released as intended. Honda first learned about the issue in April 2023 but wasn't able to obtain parts for analysis until August 2024.
The investigation continued through January 2025, until Honda investigators claimed that customer misuse of the tire repair kit was to blame in April 2025. However, it wasn't until March 2026 that the automaker identified a manufacturing fault in the kit. All told, Honda has recorded 53 warranty claims related to the tire repair kit fault and eight reports of injury connected to the issue, according to federal documents.
The fix is simple: Honda will replace the tire repair kit nozzle or sealant bottle with one that features a two-way valve. Similarly, Honda says production of this specific tire repair kit was altered to May 2026 to remedy the issue for future models. Owners of the affected vehicles will be notified by mail and can contact their local Honda dealership for assistance.
