Honda has officially confirmed the third generation of its Ridgeline pickup truck, with a new teaser image and details on its design, features, and expected release date. The future version of its mid-size pickup truck will go on sale within two years.

Ever since Honda launched the new Pilot and Passport SUVs, we've been waiting for the company to announce replacements for their previous platform-mates, the Odyssey minivan and Ridgeline truck. Well, Honda has finally broken its silence, and today it officially confirmed that the Ridgeline will get a third generation.

Honda accompanied the big news by releasing an initial teaser image. While it clearly shows the silhouette of a four-door pickup, there's not much else we can see about the truck's future design. Honda merely says that the "new Honda Ridgeline will feature an even more rugged design." We imagine it'll take inspiration from the new Passport, which was designed with the off-road-oriented TrailSport trim in mind.

The next-gen Ridgeline will have similar proportions and keep innovative features like its cargo-bed-mounted trunk but boast a boxier appearance. Honda is designing the new Ridgeline at its studio in Southern California, with the engineering side of things being handled at the Honda Auto Development Center in Ohio.

In preparation for the third-generation Ridgeline, Honda has confirmed that production of the current truck will pause sometime later this year. When its successor goes on sale "within two years," it will once again be built at the automaker's assembly plant in Alabama. It will also likely be powered by a new hybrid V-6 powertrain that'll feature up to three electric motors and improve acceleration by over 10 percent and fuel economy by over 30 percent compared with the outgoing gas-only models.
