Ford's highly anticipated $30,000 electric pickup truck is one step closer to reality. The company has launched a new website that follows the truck's development across three short videos, and there's an invitation to sign up for updates on its progress.
The truck is expected to be the first of several vehicles on Ford's new Universal EV platform, which aims to lower electric vehicle costs by reducing the number of parts and simplifying the build process. The result, Ford hopes, is the ability to make several affordable EVs in a variety of body styles in a more efficient way.
Ford first announced the electric truck in August 2025. Since then, the company has slowly released more information on the production process and details regarding the small truck, and the new website calls this potentially game-changing project a "unicorn."
View Price on AmazonAlan Clarke, vice president of advanced development projects, says in the opening video that the project is "about reimagining how we develop and build vehicles." Another video includes clips from its production line at the "Chapel of Love," as production team member Mark Gentry calls it, where he says nothing has ever come together as easily as this prototype. That's right in line with what Ford laid out as one of its goals for the project last year.
Though we can only make out subtle design choices through the prototype's camouflage, it's clear Ford isn't drastically reinventing the standard pickup truck look. It appears to be a similar size and shape to the Maverick, but with a shorter hood, and the bed looks proportionate to the bed size on other small trucks on the market.
The front and rear fenders don't bulge out like those on, say, an F-150 Raptor, leaving it with quite a boxy silhouette when viewed from the front or back. From the side, the back seat looks decently roomy, and the bedsides seem a bit taller than on the current Maverick.
The site gives some insight into the expected performance of the truck through clips of testing sessions in the snow in Northern Michigan. Chris Kirkland, senior vehicle software specialist, said in a video that the team was specifically testing for stability control, traction control, and electronic power-assisted steering capabilities.
The launch of the site marks a new milestone for the truck's release, which is expected to cost around $30,000 and go on sale sometime in 2027. Those interested in updates are encouraged to "come back soon" to see progress updates on the site.
