Ford has announced updates to its heavy-duty truck lineup for 2027, and the changes include dropping the base gas and diesel engines. The previously standard 6.8-liter gas V-8 and the lower-output Power Stroke diesel V-8 are no longer available, leaving only the high-output options.
According to Ford's order books, the 6.8-liter gas-drinking V-8 has been discontinued for the new model year. The standard-output version of the Power Stroke 6.7-liter diesel V-8 has also been dropped. This change makes the previously optional 7.3-liter gas-fed V-8, also known as the "Godzilla" engine, the standard engine across the lineup.
The "Godzilla" engine produces 430 horsepower and 485 pound-feet of torque. If you're looking for a diesel engine, your only option is the high-output Power Stroke 6.7-liter V-8, which packs 500 horsepower and a massive 1,200 pound-feet of torque.
Since the order books don't include pricing information, we'll have to wait a bit longer to see how the new engine lineup affects the price of the Ford Super Duty. However, considering that upgrading from the gas-fed 6.8-liter V-8 to the 7.3-liter V-8 previously came with a $1,500 upcharge, it's unlikely that Ford will give away the more powerful engine for free.
The same applies to the diesel engines, with the high-output mill commanding an additional $3,500 over the standard Power Stroke. We'll have to wait for the official pricing announcement to see how the changes will impact the overall cost of the Ford Super Duty.
