Ford is planning five new models for Europe between 2026 and 2029, marking a big refresh of its lineup. The new range is expected to include two small electric vehicles, two crossovers with different powertrain options, and the first Bronco designed specifically for the European market. That Bronco is also expected to come with both hybrid and fully electric versions.
Ford plans to reset after discontinuing long-running models like the Fiesta and Focus, while also adjusting to the slower-than-expected adoption of electric vehicles in Europe. To get a better sense of what these new European Ford models will actually look like and how Ford's recent partnerships could shape them, we spoke with Christian Weingaertner, managing director of Ford's passenger car division in Europe.
Weingaertner stated that they are talking to multiple players in the industry, including Volkswagen, the Koch family, and Renault, to find the right partners for their future models. He emphasized that partnerships are very common in Europe and that they analyze segment by segment to find the right partner who can provide the scale they want, the cost position, competitiveness, and the platform's technical capabilities.
For the small models, Ford has already announced that they will use Renault's AMPR platform. Weingaertner underlined that the vehicle built on that platform will be a true Ford, with Ford design, inside and out, and will deliver the full set of Ford in-vehicle experiences and accessories. He also stated that the vehicle will retain Ford driving dynamics, with all the elements they define as "tunable" staying true to Ford tradition.
