Bentley has been gearing up to launch its first electric model, an SUV, for some time now, and today we officially know what it will be called. Bentley announced that its fourth model line will wear the name Torcal. A teaser image was also released, and we won't have to wait much longer to see the full thing, with the reveal set to take place on September 23.

Bentley says the name Torcal comes from El Torcal de Antequera in Andalusia, Spain, a natural reserve in the Sierra del Torcal mountains that features eye-catching limestone rock formations with towering cliffs, unusual rock stacks, and caves. This isn't the first Bentley to be named after a natural landmark, following the Bentayga, Bacalar, and Batur. Bentley also says the name references the Latin word "torquere," which means to twist and led to the modern English word torque.

Along with the name announcement, Bentley teased the Torcal for the first time with a new image. Showing the rear of the car, the image doesn't reveal much, but it seems to confirm that it's an SUV and not a sedan or coupe, as the roofline appears to stretch all the way to the rear of the car. We can also catch a glimpse of thin taillights that have a diamond-like design and a black Bentley badge.

More information should emerge over the next couple of months, but we've already spied the Torcal testing and know some preliminary details. The SUV will be smaller than the gas-powered Bentayga, and it is expected to be closely related to the Porsche Cayenne Electric. This likely means a potent dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain and an 800-volt architecture that can support a peak charging rate of up to 270 kilowatts, allowing the vehicle to charge from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 20 minutes.

The Torcal is expected to have a range of around 300 miles on a full charge, and its dual motors will produce a combined output of over 750 horsepower. The SUV will also feature an advanced all-wheel-drive system, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in under 4 seconds.
