Audi is considering bringing more station wagons to the US market, citing enthusiast demand and a unique advantage in cities like New York. As one of the few manufacturers still offering station wagons in the US, Audi sees an opportunity to cater to a specific group of buyers who value the practicality and style of these vehicles.
The Audi RS6 Avant and A6 Allroad are currently the only long-roof models offered by the brand in the US. However, with the new-generation A6 Allroad slated for release in the 2028 model year, Audi is exploring the possibility of introducing more station wagon models to the American market.
According to Filip Brabec, senior vice president of product management at Audi of America, the brand is committed to offering a range of vehicles that cater to different tastes and preferences. "We want to be that brand that really pushes the envelope and has something for its enthusiasts," Brabec said in an interview with Road & Track.
Brabec also highlighted the popularity of station wagons in Europe, where they are often preferred for their versatility and style. While the US market has traditionally been more focused on SUVs and sedans, Audi believes that there is a niche market for station wagons that can be tapped into.
Interestingly, one of the reasons why station wagons are popular in New York City is due to the city's parking regulations. As Brabec explained, the A6 Allroad is considered a passenger car, which means it is exempt from the higher parking fees imposed on SUVs. This makes it an attractive option for city dwellers who want a vehicle that is both practical and affordable to park.
