Audi introduces the new A2 E-Tron, touted as its most efficient car ever, with a range of over 400 miles on a single charge. The A2 is a rear-wheel-drive EV that uses the recently launched VW ID.3 Neo as its foundation, saving money and shortening development time. With an energy consumption of 12.8 kWh per 62 miles, the A2 E-Tron has the lowest energy consumption of any Audi model.
The Audi A2 E-Tron has a drag coefficient of 0.24, making it the most aerodynamic car in Audi's lineup. The car features a fully enclosed underside with a front-wheel deflector, multiple spoilers, gap reducers, and gap breathers to reduce air turbulence around the wheel arches. The A2 E-Tron also has a generous air inlet shutter that opens when extra cooling is necessary for the battery and electronics.
The A2 E-Tron is powered by a 61-kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack that feeds juice to a rear-mounted electric motor producing 188 horsepower. Although Audi doesn't explicitly say so, chances are there will be other versions available with different power outputs. The LFP battery can be "routinely charged to 100 percent" to get the most out of it without worrying about battery degradation.
The Audi A2 E-Tron will serve as the company's smallest and most affordable EV when it goes on sale in Europe before the end of the year or early 2027. With its retro design cues and efficient electric powertrain, the A2 E-Tron is shaping up to be an interesting little electric hatchback.
