Acura is set to unveil a new concept at Monterey Car Week, featuring a unique lighting signature at the rear. The design is expected to influence future Acura models, including the next-generation RDX Hybrid. We'll find out more on August 14th.
Auto shows as they once existed — multi-day spectacles of excess, interviews, and shrimp where car companies would pull the covers off their latest and greatest models — have largely faded away like old soldiers. But there are still a few automotive events where the motoring world assembles to reveal and peruse the now and the next, and none is as noteworthy as the coastal California festival surrounding the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance known as Monterey Car Week.
View Price on AmazonAcura has been a staple of Car Week for years, rolling out special edition variants and exotic-looking concept cars to grab attention alongside the bleeding-edge exotica and unobtanium one-offs rolled out by the world’s highest-end automakers. This year is no different, with Honda’s luxury division bringing another new concept.
Given Honda and Acura’s propensity for showcasing concept vehicles that bear an awfully strong resemblance to planned production models, I fully expect the undisguised version of the shadowy machine to offer a fairly substantial guess about that future RDX, as well as the general look of next-gen versions of the carmaker’s other upcoming crossovers (and, to the extent it will have them, sedans and hatchbacks). We’ll all have a better sense after its official unveiling at The Quail, a Motorsports Gathering, on Friday, August 14th.
