The Alpina brand, recently relaunched under the BMW umbrella and called BMW Alpina, will soon feature a familiar nameplate: XB7. The newly formed luxury brand will offer its own version of the next-generation BMW X7 SUV, wearing unique styling and a far more upscale interior. The last XB7 went out of production in 2026, but the new one won't likely go on sale until 2029.
We expect to see a twin-turbocharged V-8 engine under the hood, producing over 600 horsepower. The styling will be inspired by the Vision BMW Alpina concept car. BMW Alpina says its mission will be to offer high performance alongside high luxury, with a lot of opportunities for customers to spec a bespoke vehicle.
Expert Tip: If you can't delay your next car purchase until 2029, but you still want a bespoke ultra-luxurious SUV, consider the Bentley Bentayga and the Mercedes-Maybach GLS600, both of which are on sale now. The XB7 nameplate is not new, but strangely, the BMW Alpina brand is. Alpina has been in a cooperative agreement with BMW for decades, manufacturing its own specially modified takes on various BMW models.
The redesigned XB7 is expected to relaunch under the BMW Alpina name—think of it as analogous to Mercedes-AMG—sometime in 2028 as a 2029 model. Car and Driver calculates your car's value in three free and easy steps - using the same Black Book data dealers use to appraise vehicles.
