The Volkswagen ID.Buzz generated a lot of excitement in the lead-up to its launch for the 2025 model year. However, for various reasons, all that excitement didn't translate to sales success during its first year of production. So when VW decided to pause production and skip the 2026 model year, some worried that the modern-day Microbus might not return, at least in the U.S. market. At the time, Volkswagen promised the retro-styled minivan would be back, and the company has stayed true to its word.
The VW ID.Buzz returns for the 2027 model year with a variety of updates. Every version inherits the brand's newest infotainment software, dubbed ID.S 6, which includes a new navigation interface on the home screen that's said to be more responsive. The Android-based system also now makes it easier to adjust interior settings through the touchscreen. Plus, there's a new app store that lets you install third-party apps like Spotify and YouTube. The ID.Buzz also now includes a NACS-to-CCS adapter, providing access to Tesla's vast Supercharger network.
For 2027, Volkswagen says it has revamped the ID.Buzz lineup. Along with the existing rear-wheel-drive Pro S and all-wheel-drive Pro S Plus 4Motion, there's now an entry-level Pro S 4Motion and a Tourer 4Motion. The latter is particularly interesting for people who like camping, as its unique content was previously reserved for the Europe-only Good Night package. The ID.Buzz Tourer's list of standard features includes a fold-out mattress, window shades, and ventilation panels for the front side windows. Along with an exterior table and chairs, there's an Overnight mode with software that's designed to enable the electric van to allow overnight occupancy.
VW hasn't yet said how much the 2027 ID.Buzz will cost. Previously, its base prices ranged from $61,545 to $72,540. We're hopeful that the automaker will find a way to keep those prices the same or possibly even lower them, and it appears that VW is working on ways to simplify the production process. For instance, it will now only offer two-tone paint options, including a new Candy White over Cherry Red.
