The 2027 Toyota GR86 features a new color option called Thunder, and the interior now offers a spicier red upholstery option. For those who have experienced the Toyota GR86, downshifting from fifth to fourth gear might have felt a bit rough. However, the new 2027 edition aims to address this issue with a 0.02-inch-wider chamfer for the shift interlock between these two gears, resulting in a smoother shift feel.
The GR86 also receives a new grayish exterior color called Thunder, as well as interior improvements to enhance the cabin atmosphere. A new red upholstery option is available on the Premium trim, and Toyota has revised the black trim on the shifter and several switches and knobs for a better appearance. Unfortunately, Toyota has not yet released images of the 2027 model's interior, so we will have to wait for a final judgment.
Throttle response has been improved with tuning changes, although the 228-horsepower 2.4-liter flat-four engine remains unchanged. The engine is still available with a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic. Toyota has not yet released pricing for the 2027 GR86, but we do not expect a significant increase given these small changes. The 2026 model started at $32,695 for the base car and $35,295 for the Premium.
There is no word yet on any changes coming for 2027 for the GR86's sibling, the Subaru BRZ. Those deciding between the two should perhaps wait a bit to see if Subaru has anything more interesting up its sleeve for its version of this sports car.
