The 2027 Rivian R2 is a compact electric SUV that is set to join the market with a range of up to 330 miles. This new model is sized similarly to compact gas-powered crossovers such as the BMW X3 and the Hyundai Tucson, but its starting price and electric powertrain put it in the same segment as the Ford Mustang Mach-E and the Tesla Model Y.
Initially, all R2s will ship as either the Premium trim with a 450-horsepower all-wheel-drive setup or the Performance trim with 656 horsepower. A Standard trim is joining the lineup later, in both single-motor and dual-motor powertrain configurations. An 88-kWh battery pack is said to deliver up to 330 miles of driving range in AWD models.
