Once you're inside the 2027 EQE SUV, it's obvious that you're in a Mercedes-Benz. Premium materials, comfortable seats, and cutting-edge tech features are part of the brand's appeal, and the EQE SUV has them in spades. If only its exterior shape looked less like a jellybean and more like that of a conventional SUV.
Two versions are on offer: the single-motor EQE320+ and the dual-motor EQE320 4Matic. Driving range is okay, exceeding 300 miles in the EQE320+, but rival SUVs such as the Lucid Gravity and the Rivian R1S can travel for longer distances on a charge. The rear-wheel-drive EQE320+ has our vote, as it can go farther on a charge than the 4Matic model, and it costs less.
The EQE320+ is the most efficient model, and it is rated by the EPA to deliver 98 MPGe city, 87 MPGe highway, and 93 MPGe combined. The EQE320 4Matic is slightly less efficient, with ratings of 84 MPGe city, 78 MPGe highway, and 81 MPGe combined. On our 75-mph highway fuel-economy test route, the all-wheel drive 4Matic model returned 90 MPGe, beating its EPA highway estimate.
First Row: This SUV has a sumptuously luxurious cabin. The standard fake-leather upholstery gives a good impression of the real thing (which is also available). We found the adjustable air suspension provides a tauter feel but a harsher ride over pavement imperfections than the standard steel springs. There’s an available rear-axle-steering system that aids both low-speed maneuverability and higher-speed handling.
