The 2027 Mercedes-Benz CLE-Class is a sleek and powerful coupe that offers a range of features and options. While it may be missing rear doors, it makes up for it with its svelte and attractive design, available in both coupe and cabriolet body styles. The interior exudes quality craftsmanship, and it can be ordered with the choice of two smooth-revving powertrains.
The base 255-hp CLE300 has enough power to get out of its own way, but the 375-hp CLE450 is the one to have if you're looking for performance to match its racy looks. If 375 horsepower still isn't enough, the 443-hp Mercedes-AMG CLE53 is the highest-octane version of the CLE available, and it's one sweet ride.
The Mercedes-Benz CLE hit the market back in 2024, and with it still being relatively fresh, we don’t expect any major changes for the 2027 model year. We’d go for the CLE450 coupe, as it gets the higher-horsepower, inline-six engine. We’d add a few options, such as adaptive cruise control and front-seat ventilation.
The CLE-class offers two powertrains. CLE300 models carry a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four, which is good for 255 horsepower. The CLE450 makes 375 horsepower by means of a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six. A nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive are standard. Both powertrains have a 48-volt hybrid system that can boost output at low rpm to compensate for turbo lag, making them feel smooth and more responsive.
We got a chance to drive both the CLE300 and CLE450 and came away happy with their performance. They handle much like the E-class sedan, although the ride isn't quite as plush because the CLE doesn't offer the sedan's air springs.
In comparison, the CLE450 coupe got to 60 mph in a swift 4.1 seconds. We haven't tested the CLE300 coupe yet, but we estimate it will get to 60 mph in around 5.2 seconds. The heavier convertible models will likely be slower by a few ticks.
According to the EPA, the CLE300 coupe earns estimates of 24 mpg city, 33 mpg highway, and 27 mpg combined, while the convertible gets 1 mpg less across the board. The CLE450 coupe delivers 23 mpg city, 33 highway, and 26 mpg combined. The CLE450 convertible drops by 1 mpg on the highway but has the same city and combined fuel economy as the coupe.
