The 2027 Jeep Grand Cherokee will once again offer the Trailhawk and Overland trims, both of which have been updated with new features and capabilities. The Trailhawk and Overland now come with the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that produces 324 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque.
When Jeep unveiled the refreshed Grand Cherokee last fall, the mid-size SUV was supposed to continue offering the off-road-oriented Trailhawk trim exclusively with the 4xe plug-in-hybrid powertrain. But then, in January, Stellantis axed every PHEV model it sells, taking the 2026 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk with it. For 2027, the Trailhawk is back, now packing the turbocharged Hurricane 4 engine, with the Overland trim also making a return.
The Trailhawk trim first arrived in 2013 and has served as the more all-terrain-capable version of Jeep's mid-size SUV ever since. The 2027 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk maintains that positioning, featuring the Quadra-Trac II 4x4 system with a two-speed transfer case, 31-inch-tall Goodyear Territory all-terrain tires, and the Quadra-Lift air suspension with semi-active electronic damping.
Other off-road upgrades include a specific Rock drive mode, an electronic limited-slip rear differential, and an integrated camera that projects the path of the tires onto the trail ahead. Jeep also fits six steel skid plates to the underside of the SUV to shield the engine, transmission, transfer case, fuel tank, and suspension from pesky rocks.
The big change for 2027 is that the Trailhawk is now motivated by the same Hurricane 4 engine found in other Grand Cherokees. The turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder produces 324 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque and is hooked up to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The Trailhawk is capable of towing 6200 pounds and comes standard with the Trailer Tow package.
Jeep boasts about the Trailhawk's 11.4 inches of ground clearance, and the revised bumpers provide an approach angle of 36 degrees and a departure angle of 30 degrees. The front bumper is reworked with integrated red tow hooks, while the hood features a matte black graphic to reduce glare. The all-terrain rubber wraps around 18-inch Granite Crystal wheels, and inside, the Trailhawk is decked out in black nappa leather with red stitching.
The Overland trim is also back for 2027, serving as the luxurious off-road model in the lineup. The bumper design is similar to that of the Trailhawk but features chrome tow hooks, and the Overland rides on shiny 21-inch wheels. The cabin is swathed in nappa leather, with "Overland" embossed in the seatbacks, and the seats are heated and ventilated.
