Shockingly, customers can order the 2027 Ford Explorer ST in any color they want—even if that color isn't black. The Ford Explorer is going goth, or more accurately, sinister, by Ford's reckoning. The Blue Oval brand is giving the Explorer ST a new all-black appearance package for the 2027 model year.
The Sinister Package, as Ford calls it, is exclusive to the sportiest Explorer trim, and according to Ford, was inspired "By the Community. For the Community." Despite the fairly aggressive name, the new Sinister Package is rather bland in terms of what it changes about the car. Those changes include exclusive amber running lights, unique ST badging, and 21-inch gloss black wheels.
Despite the all-black nature of the package, Ford will let you pair a Sinister-equipped ST with any of the normally available paint options. Thankfully, while the package is a bit of a let-down in terms of what it actually changes, the price is at least approachable. The package only tacks on $1695 to the price of an Explorer ST, which isn't terrible when you consider that Ford charges $4895 to paint the roof black.
Following the same "by the community, for the community" mentality, Ford is bringing back the Explorer ST Experience for owners of new 2026 and 2027 Explorer STs. The complimentary one-day professional driving school will open in the fall and will travel across the U.S., though Ford hasn't said exactly where it will go.
