BMW is gearing up to release an M performance version of the i3 sedan, and the assertive-looking Concept M Neue Klasse revealed at the 24 Hours of Le Mans previews the upcoming electric alternative to the M3. The Concept M Neue Klasse takes the sleek styling of the i3 and dials up the aggression to 11.
Up front, the headlight graphics have been redesigned and now feature yellow slashes, echoing the look seen on the M Hybrid V8 race car that competes at Le Mans. Both the front and rear bumpers wear a pair of square lights oriented in a stack, a feature BMW calls "Track Lights" and says will become a hallmark of future M cars.
There are plenty of aerodynamic elements on the Concept M Neue Klasse, including a substantial front splitter and a large vent in the hood. At the rear, there's a sizable diffuser and a ducktail spoiler that pops up above the taillights. The front and rear bumpers also feature deep carve-outs divided by a central spine, a look BMW says was inspired by multihull sailing boats.
The splitter, hood vent, and diffuser are made from natural fiber elements, and BMW created a new color for the concept called Monza Red. The car is powered by a quad-motor electric powertrain running on an 800-volt architecture.
