Seat belts remain one of the best safety features available to vehicle occupants these days, so long as they are worn properly — and, of course, in working order. As it turns out, a sizable population of Ram pickup trucks may not be equipped with properly functioning seat belts, according to a new recall announced by Stellantis.

The recall, which was announced on July 31, includes more than 1.27 million 2019–2026 Ram 1500 units across America that may have been built with a second-row center and/or second-row driver-side seat belt buckle anchor that was not properly attached to the vehicle body structure. In certain crash scenarios, Ram says the performance of the second-row seatbelts could be affected, increasing the risk of injury.

Stellantis is aware of one potentially related injury tied to the recall, according to Reuters. There have been no related fatalities, according to the Automaker. The recall also spans beyond the United States to include 156,000 units in Canada, 15,000 units in Mexico, and about 75,000 units outside North America, which brings the total recall population to more than 1.5 million trucks.

Affected owners will be notified by Ram’s parent company Stellantis, and instructed to contact their local dealer for an inspection appointment. Dealers will inspect the second-row center and second-row driver seat belt buckle anchor and, if necessary, properly attach it to the vehicle's body structure. This service will be provided free of charge.

This isn’t the first instance of a Ram-related recall in 2026. The truckmaker recalled around 12,000 units of its 2500-series Heavy Duty pickup earlier this year for incorrect vehicle speed calibration systems that allow the pickup to exceed the maximum tire speed rating. The automaker reprogrammed the powertrain control module of the affected vehicles to keep its top speed within tire limits.
